College of ECE
All Early Childhood Educators are required to be registered and maintain annual membership with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE). All Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) will abide by the Code of Ethics as outlined by the College of ECE.
Obtaining and maintaining membership in the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is the employee’s responsibility.
All RECEs are expected to obtain membership in the Ontario College of ECE. Proof of registration with the college will be provided by management prior to an offer of employment.
Management will verify all RECEs' standings with the CECE prior to annual licensing to ensure compliance and good standing.
Employees who have not provided proof of renewal by submitting a receipt of payment before their expiration date will have 7 days to provide proof of renewal. During this time, employees may only work if the College of ECE public registry indicates that they remain in good standing.
If after 7 days past their renewal date the RECE does not provide proof of renewal, they may face disciplinary action up to and including suspension and/or termination. This is regardless of the employee’s standing on the College of ECE portal.
Code of Ethics
Registered Early Childhood Educators are committed to the CECE Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics reflects a core set of beliefs and values of care, respect, trust, and integrity. These beliefs and values are fundamental to members of the profession and guide their conduct.
Responsibilities to Children
Registered Early Childhood Educators will make the well-being and learning of all children under their professional supervision their foremost responsibility. They value the rights of the child, respecting the uniqueness, dignity, and potential of each child, and strive to create learning environments where children experience a sense of belonging.
Responsibilities to Families
Registered Early Childhood Educators will recognize and respect the uniqueness and diversity of families and strive to establish and maintain relationships with family members based on trust, openness, and respect for confidentiality.
Responsibilities to Colleagues and to the Profession
All Registered Early Childhood Educators will interact with colleagues and other professionals in ways that demonstrate respect, trust, and integrity. This is expected from RECE staff as well as any non-RECE staff.
Responsibilities to the Community and Society
Registered Early Childhood Educators value and engage in collaboration with community agencies, schools, and other professionals.
